Celbridge Set for ‘Action on Childcare’ Meeting

As the population of North Kildare grows, pressure on the childcare system to deliver for families intensifies.

Labour’s Angela Feeney will host a public meeting in the Mill, Celbridge on Wednesday, 11th September to canvas the views of local parents and childcare providers.

‘’It’s almost impossible to stress how important childcare is for families. At the moment, I know that childcare costs, competition for places, and lack of facilities are big concerns.’’

‘’This meeting is about listening and understanding what people have to say, and then using it to focus on the solutions.

‘’This is about having local services for children and babies that are convenient, affordable and of good quality.

‘’The crisis in childcare availability has been at the top of my agenda throughout my time on the Council.

‘’As a Councillor, I have made sure that developers have to deliver crèches at the start of new estate developments.

‘’I have been highlighting that childcare is not working for parents, providers, or early years education workers.

‘’Waiting lists remain intractably long. One parent told me their child was 216th on a waiting list for a local place. Low wages and high staff turnover are also prevalent in the current system.

‘’We need change, and I will fight for it,’ concludes Feeney.

The meeting will start at 7.00 pm in the Mill’s Kate Walsh Room on the 11th of September.
