Cllr Feeney calls for pedestrian crossing at end of Carton Avenue

At the recent Clane-Maynooth Municipal Council meeting, Councillor Angela Feeney called on the Council to install a push-button pedestrian at the end of Carton Avenue, to make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the road and continue their route into Carton Demesne.

“This is a very popular walk for many people, they walk down Carton Avenue to access Carton Demesne but to cross the road has become increasingly difficult and dangerous,” said Cllr. Feeney. Crossing that very busy stretch of road would be much safer if a push button pedestrian crossing was installed like I suggested on another road recently, at the Maynooth Town Football Club”. That pedestrian crossing which Cllr. Feeney proposed last year is now operational and is making the access much safer.

The stretch of road in question has become busier than ever, it is a straight stretch of road and when the Maynooth Eastern Ring Road opens, it will only get busier, according to Councillor Feeney.

“We are all in favour of active travel but we need to make sure it is safe for everyone when they are out and about. Many residents have been in touch with me calling for this measure and this is why I brought the motion to the Council meeting on Friday last.

“I am pleased that the Council has responded favourably to my proposal, we now need to allocate funding to make it a reality”, said Cllr. Feeney.

Cllr. Feeney suggested that Local Property Tax (LPT) be allocated to the project, as happened with the other pedestrian crossing at the Football Club. “This is good use of LPT in my mind and when we are having our discussions on allocations of LPT for projects, I will certainly be putting this forward for funding”.
