Labour General Election Candidate Cllr. Angela Feeney has welcomed the decision by An Bord Pleanala to grant planning permission for the provision of DART services to Celbridge.
The Railway Order for the project was lodged in May 2023 and permission was granted on 13th November last, stated Ms. Feeney.
This is great news for Celbridge commuters which will see the extension of the electrified DART network from Hazelhatch and Celbridge to Heuston Station. Celbridge commuters will now have higher frequencies and new trains and passenger capacity will increase from the current 5,000 to 20,000 per hour per direction. Switching commuters to this new service will also have a positive impact on Climate Change given the sustainability of the DART service.
Cllr. Feeney stated that the tender stage for the construction of the DART expansion to Celbridge will now commence and it is anticipated that construction will commence in 2026.
In conclusion Cllr. Feeney stated that finally, Celbridge commuters will get the Public Transport Service they have been crying out for, for years.
